In 2021 and 2022, CirclesUBI embarked on a journey of community consultation and research across three distinct areas of Bali. 494 individuals were engaged to gather in-depth feedback on how the CirclesUBI initiative could be effectively integrated into their communities. The outcomes provided valuable insights and laid the groundwork for redesigning the CirclesUBI.id Beta app and the testing and outreach activities that followed.
The results of the consultation were overwhelmingly positive. In the areas surveyed, 97% of respondents displayed high enthusiasm for the implementation of CirclesUBI in Indonesia. This resonance within both rural and urban communities showcased the potential impact of the initiative and the readiness of these communities to embrace a community-driven economic system.
Recognizing the importance of local buy-in and catering to the specific needs of grassroots communities, the consultation process involved a range of strategies. Focus Group Discussions were conducted, where questions like "What do you perceive as the primary benefit of Circles Bali for your community?" and "Are there any obstacles you foresee for the rollout of Circles Bali?" were explored. These discussions provided a platform for community members to voice their opinions and insights.
One of the key outcomes of the consultation process was the identification of types of vendors that play a pivotal role in providing essential goods and services within local communities. From ceremonies to education, food and beverages and more, feedback from these vendors formed the foundation of the Circles market strategy.
An indepth Supplier Survey was conducted aimed to gain a deeper understanding of the potential CirclesUBI exchange ecosystem. This mapping out the networks of supplies and values that weave through local communities and provided insight on how local vendors may make use of Circles Points within their livelihood practices.
Outcomes were translated into action by informing the transformation of the CirclesUBI user interface and experience. The UI/UX makeover that followed was designed to cater to the specific needs and preferences of the target users, ensuring that the app would resonate with the community it serves.
The continuous support from policy advisors and Balinese authorities played a significant role in facilitating this research journey. Their guidance and endorsement allowed the Circles Indonesia project to delve deep into the dynamics of the communities, ensuring that the initiative's implementation aligned with local needs and aspirations.
CirclesUBI is committed to being a community-driven solution. By engaging with local perspectives, understanding essential providers, mapping the Circles ecosystem, and enhancing user experience, the groundwork was laid for an initiative that has the potential to transform the way communities meet their daily needs.
